Fixing BAR widget crashes from autoHideButtons setting

Some BAR widgets fail to initialize with an error referencing autoHideButtons. The problem is in the widget configuration, not the game itself.

What the error looks like

The game log shows a widget removal message followed by an Error in Initialize pointing to the bar widget file. The autoHideButtons line triggers a crash when the widget tries to load. This usually happens after a widget update changes the expected option structure.

How to fix it

Open the widget configuration file and check the autoHideButtons option value. If the setting does not match what the current widget version expects, the widget crashes on load. Reset the widget options to defaults, then reapply your custom settings one at a time.

If custom widgets are not allowed in your lobby settings, the game falls back to default widget behavior. The crash only appears when custom widget overrides are active.

Preventing future crashes

After widget updates, test your custom configuration in a skirmish game before joining multiplayer. This catches initialization errors without disrupting other players or costing any rating.
