When does BAR rating uncertainty go down
The uncertainty threshold
OpenSkill tracks uncertainty as a numerical value that decreases with every public match. Rated placement locks in when uncertainty drops below 6.65. Players without a rated placement will see their rank continue to fluctuate until they cross that threshold.
Uncertainty drops roughly 0.05 per game. At that rate, fresh accounts need around a hundred public matches before placement stabilizes. The exact number varies based on match results and opponent ratings.
Why public matches matter
Private matches and custom lobbies do not reduce uncertainty. Only public matches feed data back into the rating system. Players pushing for placement need to queue into the public matchmaking pool rather than organizing private games.
What players say about the BAR community
"The removal of toxicity, the goal of fun and learning, makes for a refreshing spot to play and spend time. It has also made a game with plenty of complexity a bit less daunting to dive into." — [Crd] member review
