How the mentor system works
The academy channel on the BAR Discord hosts volunteer mentors. These are experienced players who review replays and provide constructive feedback. The service is free and open to any BAR player regardless of skill level or chevron rank.
Mentors are typically active during evening hours in various time zones. You do not need to catch them live. The system works like a ticket queue. Submit your request and a mentor reviews it when they have time.
How to submit a replay for review
First, create a thread in the academy chat channel on Discord. Use the thread button in the top right of the discord channel interface. Second, paste your replay link from bar-rts.com/replays. Third, include your in-game name if it differs from your Discord handle.
That is the entire process. The replay gets added to the review queue. A mentor picks it up and analyzes your game. They will point out what you did well and where improvement is possible. Both parts matter equally.
What feedback looks like
Good mentor feedback includes timestamped observations. Something like at three minutes you should have built a second metal extractor instead of a solar, or at twelve minutes you sent units without scouting first. Specific actionable advice beats vague generalities every time.
Some mentors will roast your game for humor. Do not take it personally. The BAR community uses friendly teasing as a bonding mechanism. The feedback is still genuine underneath the jokes.
For new players especially
If you watched a few BAR games on YouTube and want to try, play BarbAI skirmishes first. Practice hotkeys and basic build orders against the AI before jumping into player-versus-player matches. Mentors appreciate players who already know the basics.
